Increasing The Windows Virtual Memory

Hi friends, today I am posting about a windows trick. I had posted my last windows trick two months ago. Today, I am explaining about how to increase your windows virtual memory. This is a simple step and trick that everyone can do. For doing this trick, better use windows xp. I had did this with windows xp because I am using xp now in my system.

What Is Virtual Memory ?

Virtual memory is simulated RAM. When you have used up all your RAM, your computer will shift data to an empty space on the hard drive. The computer swaps data to the hard disk and back to your RAM as needed. When you increase your virtual memory you are increasing the empty space that is reserved for your RAM overflow. You can increase vitual memory of your computer by cleaning the registry. Better use the ccleaner.

How to increase Virtual Memory?

In windows XP,
  • Come to desktop.
  • Right click on my computer.
  • Click on properties.
  • Choose the advanced tabs.
  • Under perfomance, click on settings.
  • On settings tab, choose advanced.
  • Under advanced, see the virtual memory section.
  • Under virtual memory section, click on Change button.

  • In the initial size column, set a size and set a maximum size and click on Set button.
  • Click on OK.
  • Click on OK.
  • Restart the system.
  • Cache memory changed.
  • Enjoy !
HOT TIP: To stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file, set the initial and maximum size to the same value. For example, 500 and 500. The value should be at least 1.5 times more than your physical RAM. If your computer has 512MB of RAM increase the virtual memory paging file to 1.5*512= 768
